Combine massage with margaritas and manicures for the ultimate in unwinding at this playful day spa.In Short
Need a break? This is the place for affordable prices, excellent service and a little humor. Traditional massage, manicure/pedicure and waxing are available, as well as a men's package and airbrush tanning. For real fun, come on Tuesdays for a massage or facial, foot Jacuzzi and either a margarita or hot toddy, depending on the season. Romance comes in the form of candlelight, a glass of wine and side-by-side couples' massage with Maruba Mood Mud. ”   Contributor – 9/8/2004

Horrid Place ! “ last year my boyfriend(who lives out of town) surprised me with an hour massage. I had a little difficulty finding the place because I was new in town... I was 7 minutes late for my appointment when i got a phone call from Mellow Me Out demanding wanting to know where I was. I told her I was around the corner. She scolded me telling me she could only do a 45 minute massage since I was late and she practically hung up on me. I wasn't worried about that, because my boyfriend had already paid. About 3 minutes later I arrived and was ignored once I got into the salon... waited for a couple of minutes and finally was taken back to the room. The girl was cold with me, and kept lashing out about how she can give me a message for 45 minutes. I told her thats not a problem. It was the most painful massage I've ever had, and I was uncomfortable the entire time. Finally it was over... and I was taken out to the waiting room again. The rude girl stopped me and told me I needed to pay for the 45 minutes - repeating again to the receptionist that i was late. I told her that my boyfriend had paid for this as a surprise because i was stressed. She didn't believe me ! She made the receptionist check. Once she realized that I was pre-paid and that she was going to get paid for the hour, even though it was only 45 minutes she tried to smile at me. I was so angry I just walked out the door, no tip.. nothing ! It was my first and last time in this place.. I didn't complain because I didn't want my boyfriend to know how horrid it was- since he paid ! I will never go back to this place. There are a couple of really nice places in Sacramento.. and they are cheaper then this place too ! ”   Applejunkie – 3/23/2009

It does suck by Sick O. at InsiderPages “ What a sucker I am for going to this hell hole. RUDE staff. Talk about people thinking they are better then you. OMG. Just flat out rude people here. My massage sucked also. I just really wanted my feet massaged and she didn't concentrate on them. It seems as though there is a huge chain of command there as weel. How about having a manager, and employees? Thats it. No, not there. Everyone has a title. What does that result in? No teamwork. I will never go there and I suggest you don't go there either. There are better places, like everywhere. ”   Citysearch User – 10/20/2008

great place for treatment “ I've been to the Fulton location many times for massages and once for massage/paraffin treatment and I really like this place. I wouldn't say that it's an upscale place, but it's a very comfortable setting with funky decor. I have to say that some of the receptionists that work there are not that friendly, but I wouldn't say they are unfriendly either. All the massage therapists I've ever had there are really good about giving lots of pressure and getting rid of muscle tension. The prices are pretty reasonable too. ”   allya2 – 9/5/2008

Fulton location is grand but downtown... “ I've frequented the Fulton location for mellow me out and I've always had a pleasant and relaxing time. The staff is generally courteous. They don't seem to mind if I'm early and always offer the Kat Lounge to relax before hand. They also don't through a fuss when I'm a little late. The estiticians have all been kind, knowledgeable and friendly save one, who I believe is no longer working there. Because of my great experiences with this location I decided to try out the downtown location since it is closer to my home. The location does not have the same feel as it is located in an office building on Capital St. I tried to overlook the cold industrial colors but it was hard to overlook the cold and snody staff. My message was of par both times but the reception and post treatment atmosphere was lacking. I would recommend the Fulton location to anyone but until they have some adjustments in the general staff of the downtown location I would just drive the few extra miles. It?s worth it. ”   __ammorton – 7/15/2008

Awesome place to relax... “ I've been to the downtown and fulton locations having gone about 5 times now, 4 of which were a different mix of the couples packages. And 1 recently, actually yesterday, which i got the the Tarzan package for a father's day gift at the Fulton location. Every time we've been to Mellow Me Out the customer service and the experience there has been awesome. I've been to many spa locations from your hole in the wall day spa to the Bellagio Day Spa in Las Vegas, and i've got to say that for the price, environment, customer service, and experience it's definitely one of the best day spas in Sacramento. It may not be an environment like that of a luxury Bellagio day spa but then again you're not paying $400 for a couples massage. I really enjoyed the foot and hand rescue as well as the facial that I got with the package?I know it?s kinda feminine but hey?it was a gift, at least that?s my excuse. I?d like to thank the staff and owner for having such a great place to go to to relieve stress. ”   HolyDiver33 – 6/18/2008

mellowed but not impressed “ I arrived at the Fulton location about 8 minutes before my 75-min facial was scheduled to start. I was approached by an employee dying to give me a run-down of the featured body care products in the dimly lit waiting area. His describing the cinnamon-paprika hand lotion as having a "cinnamon-y-paprika-y smell" left me feeling that exuberance does not equal my wanting to talk about my skin care needs. Waiting, I noted the "clean-enough" floor and the receptionists conversing in the famous "gossip-whisper" behind the counter. I was soon warmly greeted by my well-mannered, young esthetician, who led me through the inner corridors into the almost-dark Safari room. At exactly one-minute past my scheduled session time, I changed in the very small room into a well-used terry cover-up and hopped into a heated massage chair. Just when I began to think the hit-and-miss ambient music was too loud, I decided the walls were too thin and listened to laughter in the next room, throughout my entire session. As we were beginning, I specifically requested that I would like to have extractions performed. She acknowledged that they were part of the treatment but when it came time to do the dirty work, she spent a few minutes looking and looking but doing very little extracting. (We all know it is the number one skin trick that you shouldn't try at home, but it was almost like she didn't feel comfortable doing it, slipping twice on my nose.) The hand and foot massage that comes with the facial was more moisturizing than therapeutic. My hair was saturated with lotion a few inches into my hairline and I had to wipe off my hands before touching my clothes. Even though I felt like I had woken up from a nap when I handed over my money, the real disappointment came when I found myself sitting in my car at the time when my esthetician she should have been sweetly telling me that she will be waiting outside for me with a glass of cold water. ”   rcfinsac – 12/7/2007

Changing my Comments “ I am changing my review from a 1 to a 3 stars because the owner of the salon reached out to address my concerns after a mishap at the salon. But the massage was great and my issues were addressed. Good luck & thank you. ”   Citysearch User – 11/1/2007

TERRIBLE! by Mary Jane B. at InsiderPages “ I went there for a 90 minute couple's massage and it was the worst massage I had ever had, yet the most expensive. The masseuse did not say two words to me the entire time. It was an hour and a half massage and I got MAYBE 20 minutes of work on my back, which needed it the most. The rest of the time she just walked around me, rubbing my limbs. She was as lazy as they come. I asked her three times to apply more pressure and even found myself pushing my hands & feet against her hand to try to create my own pressure! Talk about UN-relaxing....while you sit there fuming about the money you are flushing down the drain on a horrible massage! ”   Citysearch User – 10/31/2007

Great Service “ Just what I expected and more! I needed a massage for an aching back and they worked out all the kinks. Very friendly staff and made me want to come back. (I ended up booking another appointment). A little side note. It's obvious that the negative comments listed on this site are the work of the same individual. By the common words they use, punctuation, spelling errors, etc,. I think it is the work of a former employee who couldn't make it there due to his/her poor work ethic. If a therapist is not up to parr, they will not last long at Mellow Me Out. I know they are required to help out around the office and for the most part everyone seems to be a team player. A little advice for the person posting the negative comments: RETURN TO SCHOOL. Learn to spell and don't spend so much time on the internet speaking bad about hard working individuals, unlike yourself. ”   Citysearch User – 10/16/2007
