Matt Cheney, the founder of Gopher Dogs, didn't always have this dream. He had a normal job managing an electronics store. His family lived in Boston and Michigan. When it came time to travel, he took Kitsuni and Sage (his dogs) to the kennel. This is where the problems started.Matt and his wife Heather would drop Kit and Sage off, and she would always insist on touring the facility, dogs in tow. By the time the dogs got halfway to their 6'x10' cell, Kit would have relieved himself out of fear at least twice. His ears were pinned back, and they practically had to drag him to his cell. After Matt and Heather said their good-bye's, Heather would start crying. She knew that he would be fine, and that they would never hurt him in any way, but the site of Kit so rattled always disturbed her. When Matt picked up Kit and Sage from the kennel, Kit always looked like he had just finished an 80 hour work week with out any overtime pay. And when they got home, there was a two to three day readjustment period. There was a better way...By offering in-home services, Matt realized that other dogs would be happy and calm when their owners come home. This has the effect of making dog owners happy and calm when traveling or working. He found that it works on cats too! So Matt assembled a team of passionate and trustworthy pet people, and now shares his vision with many more people in Charlotte and surrounding areas.
