Sometimes even big businesses need a little help from the outside, which is why they call in a corporate investigator to get the job done. Rick Roy, founder of Rix Investigations in Phoenix, Arizona, talks here about why hiring a corporate investigator can be a good idea.
A corporate investigator is someone who has been hired by a company to conduct an investigation regarding activities around or related to the company who is hiring them.
The last corporate investigation we did was against a competitor a company thought was spying on them, and believed to have put a bug in the office. There was nothing there; in the end they were fine.
Other examples of why firms hire corporate investigators include:
- A firm hires an investigator as they want to pre-screen their employees before hiring them.
- A firm has two or three partners but one has gone bad, so they are trying to find evidence against him.
- A corporation hires an investigator because they want to obtain evidence where an employee or partner is stealing from them or embezzling.
- Fraudulent use of a corporate credit card.
- The vice president is sleeping with the president’s wife. Hey, I’ve been there, it happens!
- A corporation may hire a private investigator to go and survey another business. They might want to find out exactly what business they are doing. In one case I did, a man bought a company from another man, part of the agreement was that he could not sell certain items in his store. But the original owner felt the new owner was violating the contract and he needed proof. I went into the store with cameras hidden in my eyeglasses and saw him selling the product. It was a particular brand of cigar that he was not supposed to be selling; it was a tobacco shop.
- Employee theft – one of the most common reasons to hire a corporate private investigator.
- Sexual harassment within the company.
- Defacing corporate property.
- Lewd and lascivious acts while on duty. This usually includes having sexual relations in the office.
If your business has problems that cannot be sorted out, hiring a corporate investigator may be able to rectify the situation. Whether it’s a case of embezzlement, fraud or computer bugging, a specialized corporate investigator can get to the bottom of the problem.
