All about bioidentical hormone therapy.

Dr. Edmund Chein heads the Life Extension Institute in Palm Springs, California, where he discovered that bioidentical hormones activate telomerase, which in turn lengthen the telomere portion of the DNA in our cells. The telomere control the cell aging process. Here, he explains how his Institute works, and what you can expect if you pay a visit.

What is the Palm Springs Life Extension Institute?

This Institute concentrates on bioidentical hormone balancing therapy, exploring the many benefits it can have to human beings. If you want to look and feel younger, it could also be of benefit to you.

Bioidentical Hormone Therapy and the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Longevity

The Nobel Prize in Medicine 2009 was given to three scientists who conducted work on telomere and telomerase, which have a profound effect on the life span of our cells. This article discusses how this research relates to work done at the Palm Springs Life Extension Institute.

Why Do We Age?

We age because the telomere in our DNA gets shorter. But now there are ways we can lengthen it, and possibly even reverse the aging process. The reason: We age because our hormone levels drop, so keeping them at a higher level consistent with a younger person is vital.

When Does Old Age Begin?

Scientists have now proven that old age begins in our 20s. So if you wondered why you are in your late 20s and you already have thinning hair and a slight paunch, now you know why.

Biological Age Reversal

Using bioidentical hormone therapy it is possible to bring an individual’s age down by 20 years. That is just one reason it can be worth investigating the work done at the Palm Springs Life Extension Institute.

What is the Human Growth Hormone?

Made in our pituitary gland, the Human Growth Hormone is responsible for us attaining our full height. It is the hormone that keeps us growing in adolescence, and when it drops we begin to age. Luckily, there are ways of stopping it from dropping.

Signs You May Need Hormone Therapy

Few of us have maintained the youthful appearance we had in out 20s, and fewer still have the energy, vim and vigor that accompanied our youth. You might benefit from hormone therapy if you are experiencing any of the classic signs of aging.

Dosing and Bioidentical Hormone Therapy

Taking hormones is something that should only be done under the proper care and supervision of a qualified physician. Buying over-the-counter drugs and self-dosing are both dangerous practices that are to be frowned upon.

Benefits of Bioidentical Hormone Therapy

Being healthy and remaining healthy for longer are two key goals of the Palm Springs Life Extension Institute. Many problems often associated with aging are things that the Institute targets in particular.

What is Bioidentical Hormone Supplementation Therapy?

Using all your body’s natural hormones is how we do bioidentical hormone therapy, which can bring your hormone levels down to that of a younger person and make you look and feel younger as well.

Monitoring Patients on the Total Hormone Supplementation Program

Patients who come on our program are routinely monitored to make sure their progress is coming along nicely. It is important to keep an eye on how people are doing for the best results.

Need for Supplements in Hormone Therapy

Deficiencies in vitamins and/or trace minerals can negatively effect the human body. That’s why certain supplements are recommended for individuals undergoing hormone therapy. Read all about it here.

Health Insurance and Bioidentical Hormone Therapy

Health insurance will not pay for this type of hormone therapy, as it does not target disease.

Effects of Hormone Balancing Therapy

Returning hormone levels to those consistent of a younger person are key to this hormone balancing therapy. Many patients have seen myriad benefits, including increased muscle, decreased fat, a smaller waistline and re-growth of body hair (for men).

Telomerase is an enzyme in our cells which keeps the telomere portion of our DNA healthy and long, to the point of being capable of giving human cells immortality in laboratory conditions.

Dr. Edmund Chein is head of the Life Extension Institute in Palm Springs, California. Here, Dr. Chein discusses how his process relates to recent prize-winning advances in medicine, most notably the recent 2009 Noble Prize in Medicine.

The Nobel Prize in Medicine 2009 was given to the work scientists conducted to discover how telomere and telomerase control our health span and life span.

Everybody’s cells have DNA, and every DNA has a region called telomere. When this region is long, the cell is healthy and young. When it is short, the cell gradually dies or gives birth (replicated) to aged-looking daughter cells. So in order to have good health or longevity, we must make our telomeres long. If you keep them long, your cells will be youthful and live for a long time.

Telomerase is an enzyme in our cells which keeps the telomere portion of our DNA healthy and long, to the point of being capable of giving human cells immortality in laboratory conditions. How can you keep your telomeres long? By activating your telomerase to work. How do you activate your telomerase to work? By bringing all your bioidentical hormones up to 20-year-old levels, because all our cells are beautiful, young and healthy at that age.

Age Reversal

Since writing my book Age Reversal, first published in January 1998, I have been proposing the mechanism in which hormones in our bodies play a role in activating the telomerase, which in turn prolongs the telomere portion of our DNA. This process keeps the cells young and healthy, thus accomplishing our goal of extending health span and longevity.

Now I am particularly excited because the 2009 Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to three scientists who work on telomere and telomerase research.

The Nobel Committee has validated my position by awarding the Nobel Prize in Medicine to these three scientists, who showed how telomerase works to lengthen the telomere portion of our DNA and thus achieve youthful cell replications and perpetual non-dying cells in the laboratory.

At the Palm Springs Life Extension Institute, we specialize in optimized total hormone balancing by returning hormone levels to values consistent with a younger person. Studies have shown that Hormone Balancing Therapy can slow, stop or possibly even reverse the deterioration of our organs and cells. This gives great hope for not only a longer life, but a healthy, and active quality of life.

Here are just some of the positive effects our hormone balancing therapy programs have had on some of our patients:

For Men:

Increased muscle

Decreased fat

More defined waistline

Hair fuller and thicker

Re-growth of body hair

Better lifestyle

Reduced wrinkles

For Women:

Increased muscle

Decreased fat

More defined waistline

Decreased cellulite

Flatter stomach

Firmer thighs

Firmer arms, and underarms

Reduced wrinkles

Removal of trace minerals from an enzyme often reduces its activity to zero and sometimes replenishment of the mineral restores the enzymatic activity.

Dr. Edmund Chein is head of the Life Extension Institute in Palm Springs, California, where he discovered that bioidentical hormone therapy can stop and possibly even reverse the aging process. Here, he discusses why people undergoing hormone therapy would benefit from multiple vitamin and trace mineral supplements.

The scientific world has reached recommended daily allowances and requirements for many trace minerals and vitamins. The most striking examples of clinical deficiency in trace minerals are seen in patients who have been placed on long-term total parenteral nutrition (TPN). Often when no mineral supplements were provided, patients developed multiple deficiency syndromes.

Most manifestations of trace mineral deficiency, especially the endocrine and metabolic derangements, can be attributed to decreases in concentration or activity of enzymes. Many enzymes contain trace amounts of minerals required for their full activity.

Removal of trace minerals from an enzyme often reduces its activity to zero and sometimes replenishment of the mineral restores the enzymatic activity. In the case of vitamin supplements, it is noted that vitamin B12 improves the quality of semen in fertile men in that it increased total sperm count, increased motility and decreased immune forms of the sperm.

Therefore, it is recommended that adults on hormone replacement therapy be supplemented simultaneously with multiple trace minerals and multiple vitamins. A few other ecxamples:

Zinc deficiency has been noted to decrease somatomedin-C (insulin growth factor) activity; therefore, somatomedin-C activity appears to be zinc dependent. Zinc deficiency also has been noted in night blindness which may be due to depletion of retinene reductase, a zinc metalloenzyme. Patients with zinc deficiency have also suffered from impaired taste and smell senses.

Copper deficiency has been noted to cause reproductive failure. It may also cause osteoporosis, which is caused in decrease in lisyl oxidase activity, a copper-dependent enzyme necessary for cross-linking of coflagen. Hyperpigmentation of the skin is also noted in copper deficiency which results from the decrease in tyrosinase, a copper-dependent enzyme necessary for melanin synthesis.

Selenium deficiency will cause reduction in cell membrane protection because selenium is the co-factor in glutathione peroxidase that protects cell membranes against oxidative destruction. Manganese deficiency causes carbohydrate intolerance and disturbs diabetic glucose tolerance tests.

Chromium deficiency also has been observed to cause abnormal glucose tolerance tests, and chromium deficiency also has been noted to cause hypercholesterolemia.

Nickel deficiency has been noted to cause iron metabolism impairment which leads to anemia. Vanadium trace mineral deficiency also has been noted to cause hypercholesterolemia.

Ascorbic acid deficiency has been noted to cause scurvy, which is commonly known, but pathological semen also has been observed in patients with insufficient ascorbic acid. Low vitamin C serum levels have been reported to be an independent risk factor in cervical dysplasia, leading to cervical cancer.

Deficiency in vitamin E has been noted to cause abnormal glucose tolerance tests, and a pharmacological dose of vitamin E may enhance the insulin action in type II diabetes.

Therefore, it is recommended that adults on hormone replacement therapy be supplemented simultaneously with multiple trace minerals and multiple vitamins.

By increasing the hormone level, the DNA of the mother cell can be signaled to work again.

According to Dr. Edmund Chein, head of the Life Extension Institute in Palm Springs, California, we age because parts of our DNA get shorter and shorter. However, he has discovered that bioidentical hormone therapy can stop and possibly even reverse the aging process. Here, he discusses why we age.

We age because the telomere on our DNA, that portion of human DNA that controls lifespan in cells, gets shorter and shorter shorter and shorter. Why? Because the telomerase, or enzyme that keeps the telomere healthy, does not repair it. Why not? Because as we get older our bioidentical hormones drop, and that causes aging.

In order not to age, we have to reverse the process. Some signs of aging that we can see are wrinkling. The human cells on our body are dying. Our heart cells are dying so our blood vessels die and we get high blood pressure; our brain cells die which is why we get Alzheimer’s disease; our lymphocytes die which is why we get cancer.

So the signs of aging are diseases that are the result of various cells in our body which are dying. The more diseases you have, the more signs you have that you are aging. Of course small children get diseases, too, but they are either genetic or infectious, not related to aging.

Hormone Levels Drop

In the past, scientists believed that our hormone levels dropped because we aged. Today we know that the converse is true: We age because our hormone levels drop.

We know that maintaining hormone levels can prevent age-related diseases and turn back our biological age, thereby increasing our health span and life expectancy. Most of all, it improves our quality of life by bringing our hormone levels up to those of a young adult.

The cells of our bodies reproduce every several months or years, depending on what type of cells they are. But the young cells do not keep us young. A wrinkled mother skin cell will produce a wrinkled daughter skin cell.

How do these cells know our biological age? The information about our biological age is communicated to the DNA by hormones. As hormone levels in the body decrease, less hormone is attached to the cell wall, and a weaker electrical signal is given to the DNA of the reproducing mother cell.

This is the signal that tells the DNA that our body has aged. Therefore, the daughter cells will be reproduced in the old or diseased state of the mother cells.

By increasing the hormone level, the DNA of the mother cell can be signaled to work again. Once the DNA receives the signal that the body is that of a 20-year-old, it will reproduce young, healthy daughter cells, and these cells will reverse our biological age.

Our monitoring program makes sure that the hormones which the doctor dispense actually reach the levels of a 20-year-old.

Dr. Edmund Chein heads the Life Extension Institute in Palm Springs, California, where he discovered that bioidentical hormones activate telomerase, which in turn lengthen the telomere portion of the DNA in our cells. The telomere control the cell aging process.

Dr. Chein has since developed an anti-aging procedure which uses human growth hormones and other bioidentical hormones to activate the telomerase, a process that can slow and even reverse the aging process up to a maximum of 20 years. Here, he discusses how patients on Total Hormone Supplementation Programs are routinely monitored.

Our doctors look once a year to check the levels of their patients, to make sure their bioidentical hormones are still at the level of a 20-year-old. Any laboratory in the United States can do those tests.

The point is to make sure that a 45-year-old individual has the hormone levels of a 20-year-old. If you don’t check it, then how do you know that every hormone is at its optimal level?

The Right Amount

How do you avoid overdosing and under-dosing patients? After your initial visit, our doctors monitor the progress of your hormone levels through blood tests. Your blood is drawn at any one of our contracted blood-draw sites in cities all over the country. Using these test results, our doctors can keep your hormones at optimal levels.

Our monitoring program makes sure that the hormones which the doctor dispense actually reach the levels of a 20-year-old. If they only reach the level of a 30-year-old in the body of a 45-year-old, that means the doctor has failed. Unless that is corrected, you should get your money back.

Dr. Edmund Chein is head of the Life Extension Institute in Palm Springs, California. Here, he discusses the role the Human Growth Hormone plays in our development, and how it can help to possibly reverse the aging process in individuals – up to a maximum of 20 years.

The Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is a hormone that we have in our bodies that makes us grow tall during adolescence. That is why midgets cannot grow tall since they lack the human growth hormone to grow to a normal height.

There is a wrong belief that after we grow to our full height, we no longer need the growth hormone anymore. That is completely incorrect. The truth is that we need growth hormones throughout our life span, if we can get them and maintain them at a 20-year-old level.

Growth Hormone Drops

Unfortunately, our growth hormone drops the moment we achieve our full height. And that is the problem. As soon as we achieve our full height, we start to get old.

HGH is a hormone made by the E. coli bacteria using a DNA recombinant technique. Pharmaceutical companies make this hormone for us, they are approved by the FDA and are completely safe. In fact, they are the same ones we give to our growth-hormone deficient children to make them grow, except we now give them to adults also to make them get rid of age-related diseases and to increase longevity.

HGH: Made in the Pituitary Gland

The human growth hormone is made in our pituitary glands. It is being secreted into our bodies every day. It activates the telomerase, an enzyme which keeps the telomere region of our DNA long. When that is activated, we can slow and possibly even reverse the aging process up to a maximum of 20 years.

If you don’t look or act like when you were 20, then you would benefit from bioidentical hormone supplementation therapy.

Dr. Edmund Chein is head of the Life Extension Institute in Palm Springs, California. He retired from forensic medicine in the 1990s and began researching bioidentical hormones and their relationship to DNA. He discovered that telomeres found in DNA control the human aging process (the field that won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2009), and that telomeres in our DNA are controlled by telomerase, which in turn are activated by hormones. Here, he discusses who could benefit from hormone therapy.

If you don’t look or act like when you were 20, then you would benefit from bioidentical hormone supplementation therapy.

If you really want to tell if you could benefit, sit down and ask yourself a few questions about your life:

Would life be better if you could enjoy the vitality you had as a25-year-old, combined with the wisdom and maturity you have now?

Is it getting easier to gain weight, but harder to gain muscle?

Are you at increased risk for heart disease, elevated cholesterol, or high blood pressure?

Do you have less energy, strength, and endurance than you did at 25?

Do you suffer from chronic fatigue, depressed immunity, chronic muscle and joint pain, or osteoporosis?

Are you slow to heal or to bounce back from illness?

Are you interested in treating or reversing the symptoms of aging?

If you answered “yes” to most of these questions, you may benefit from our telomerase activating bioidentical hormone supplementation program. Give us a call or look on our website if this is of any interest to you.

Most hormones need prescriptions. Buying over-the-counter hormones at your local health food store is risky.

Dr. Edmund Chein is head of the Life Extension Institute in Palm Springs, California, where he discovered that bioidentical hormone therapy can stop and possibly even reverse the aging process. Here, he discusses concerns and solutions about his hormone therapy program as far as the right dosage is concerned. In particular, he points out how self-dosing can be dangerous, and how hormones should only be given under the care of a qualified and competent physician.

CONCERN: Isn’t it okay just to use over-the-counter hormone supplements I can get by myself at the health food stores? How do I know what the right dosage is for me?

SOLUTION: Most hormones need prescriptions. Buying over-the-counter hormones at your local health food store is risky. They are usually fakes. They are not pure nor do they tend to be of the specific potency they claim on their labels.

The solution is to be under the care of a competent physician, who can prescribe or dispense bioidentical and pure hormones at accurate dosages.

CONCERN: Is self-dosing with hormone supplements really risky? Can’t I just do what the clerk at the health-food store advises, or my friends or a book I’ve read that recommends a standardized amount?

SOLUTION: Self-dosing is a dangerous problem, particularly in America where some people think if a little is good, a whole lot more is better! That is not true, certainly not with something powerful and sensitive as your hormones.

CONCERN: I heard that high doses of hormones can cause damage to your body. Can they?

SOLUTION: Don’t do high doses. This points to the fact that everyone’s body is unique. Gender and age need to be considered and current hormone levels tested via blood work processed by a quality laboratory and analyzed by a trained physician.

At the Palm Springs Life Extension Institute, we specialize in optimized total hormone balancing by returning hormone levels to values consistent with a younger person.

Dr. Edmund Chein is head of the Life Extension Institute in Palm Springs, California, where he discovered that bio-identical hormone therapy can stop and possibly even reverse the aging process. Here, he discusses how his bioidentical hormone therapy can possibly bring people’s biological age down by 20 years.

A bioidentical hormone program can possibly reverse the biological aging process by a maximum of 20 years only. We have two kinds of “age”: There is the chronological age, which is your birth date. You cannot change that. Then there is the biological age, which puts your health status at a reference to 1,000 other people with the same birth date.

Among those thousand of people with the same birth date, there will be the top 10% and the bottom 10%. The top 10% are biologically much younger than the bottom 10%, even though they have the same birthday.

Those people in the biologically bottom 10% can be brought to physically the same level as those in the top 10% group using bioidentical hormone supplementation therapy.

20 Years Younger

Here is an example. A 40-year-old in the top 10% category can be brought to the physical condition of an average of the group, that is, 20 years younger, according to his or her chronological birthday. A birthday that is 20 years younger, but no more than that.
