In short, if you want to ensure that your experience at a med spa is as effective - and as safe - as possible, make sure you only visit one where a licensed physician does all the skilled procedures, and only have plastic surgery procedures carried out by a qualified plastic surgeon.

Horror stories about concerning med spa procedures gone wrong. But Dr. Guljeet Sohal, founder of Balle Bliss med spa in Cypress, Texas, says procedures are entirely safe – when carried out by a competent, qualified and licensed physician.

Med spa procedures are very safe – if they are carried out by the right physician, and you go to the right spa.

For example, there are a lot of places now doing laser liposuction, and from all the research that I have read, there is a lot of risk of complications if the person carrying out the procedure is not a surgeon. A lot of people who are not surgeons are doing these procedures in their offices, which I consider unsafe.

Many of my patients are asking about them, but that is not something I would recommend, going to a regular med spa and having liposuction done, because the risks are too great. I would recommend going to a plastic surgeon.

My patients are also asking me about fat grafting, moving fat form their belly and thighs into their faces, cheeks, etc. I would definitely leave that to a surgeon as well. But some medical spas are doing fat grafting as well, which I don’t think is a good idea unless carried out by a qualified plastic surgeon.

Here are some reasons why you should choose Balle Bliss as your med spa:

I am a diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine.

I served as chief resident at Baylor College of Medicine.

I received America’s Top Physician Award from the Consumers’ Research Council of America.

I am a Member in Good Standing with International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine.

I am is actively involved in aesthetic treatment of ALL her patients – unlike other medical spas where the physician serves as a “medical director” and patients never gets to see the doctor.

All injections are performed by me, not a nurse or a aesthetician.

Clients receive complimentary consultations with me, again not with a nurse or aesthetician.

In short, if you want to ensure that your experience at a med spa is as effective – and as safe – as possible, make sure you only visit one where a licensed physician does all the skilled procedures, and only have plastic surgery procedures carried out by a qualified plastic surgeon. Your health is, literally, in your hands.

The guide to everything dermatology.

In 2002, Todd Minars, M.D., joined his father’s dermatology practice, Minars Dermatology. Based in Hollywood, Florida, it has been serving the South Florida community since 1975. Dr. Minars has seen the office experience substantial growth in medical, laser, cosmetic and surgical dermatology. Here, he discusses many facets of dermatology, from finding a competent dermatologist to curing toenail fungus.

How to Find a Good Dermatologist

Word of mouth is usually the best way to find a decent doctor, and that includes a competent dermatologist. He should also have the right credentials, a well-run office and a caring bedside manner.

What is Medical Dermatology?

Any skin condition or problem that is not purely cosmetic falls under the heading of medical dermatology. If you have a skin condition, a medical dermatologist should be much more qualified to deal with it than a general physician, as this article points out.

What is Cosmetic Dermatology?

Anything that can affect the cosmetic appearance of your skin falls under the rubric of cosmetic dermatology, which mainly is concerned with fillers, lasers, injectables and cosmeceuticals.

Talking to Your Dermatologist About Skin Cancer

Nobody should feel embarrassed to visit a dermatologist if they have a skin condition that is worrying them. Early treatment is always the best cure. So if you have a suspicious-looking mole or a sore that won’t heal, see your doctor.

Detecting Skin Cancer Early

You know your skin better than anyone else, so you can keep an eye out for anything that doesn’t look right. Follow these guidelines to stay in the pink, and don’t wait more than a month if anything looks a bit suspicious.

Preventing Skin Cancer

Proper protection from the sun, including wearing a high SPF sunscreen and avoiding the midday rays, all contribute to healthy skin. Seeing your dermatologist regularly is also vital when it comes to avoiding skin cancer.

Lasers to Treat Psoriasis

Lasers are now considered the most effective treatment for psoriasis, although they don’t work well for absolutely everyone. New technological advances mean that the present laser treatment is safe, targeting only areas affected by this often unsightly and embarrassing condition.

Using Lasers on Brown Spots

It’s important to have a dermatologist determine what exactly your brown spot is before any treatment can be carried out. After all, you don’t want a med spa technician lasering off a potentially dangerous melanoma, do you?

Lasers to Reduce Acne Scars

Several laser treatments work well on acne scars, but not all scars respond positively to lasers. See your dermatologist to determine is the type of scarring you have is a good candidate for this type of treatment.

What is a Medial Facial?

A facial works best when it is designed for your own special skin type. These doctor-designed facials are made for specific types of skin, so there are almost always excellent results, whether you have older skin, rosacea or melasma.

What are Seborrheic Keratoses?

These raised or flat pigmented spots occur often with age, and although they may look unsightly, they are completely harmless. Various treatment options are available, such as freezing them off with liquid nitrogen.

Treatment for Melasma

Often referred to as the mask of pregnancy, this skin condition usually appears on the face of women with darker skin. But hormones don’t always play a role in who gets it.

Getting Rid of Dark Under Eye Circles

Many treatments don’t eliminate under eye circles. It all depends on why the circles appeared in the first place. Giving hollows under the eyes more volume with an injectable filler works the best, but that’s only appropriate for some people, as this article points out.

Getting Rid of Razor Bumps

People with thick coarse hair, both men and women, are usually more prone to getting unsightly razor bumps than other people. Laser treatment can stop the problem entirely, and many people find it almost completely painless.

Dealing With Male Pattern Baldness

Several treatments are available to “cure” this distressing cosmetic problem. Some are topical, others require taking a pill everyday. They usually have little or no side effects, and the majority of people see an improvement. However, how your hair is thinning may determine how well the treatment will work.

Treatment for Excessive Sweating

Few people realize that prescription antiperspirants can work wonders on excessive underarm sweating. For hands and feet that sweat, you have a variety of options, such as pills and injections of BOTOX, which blocks the chemical transmitters which cause us to sweat in the first place.

The Benefits of Beetle Juice

Thousands of children every year get Molluscum contagiosum, a wart-like virus which can be distressing for them as well as for their parents. Interestingly, the juice of the Blister beetle seems to be the best cure!

Treatment for Cold Sores

Oral pills can reduce the severity of cold sores on the mouth and face, and can make life much more bearable for the sufferer who has them. Some pills taken at the first tingle can also help prevent outbreaks, or at least lessen their severity.

How to Treat Genital Warts

Caused by the Human papillomavirus, or HPV, these warts can cause cervical cancer in women if left untreated. Yet they can be cured through destructive techniques, which usually involve freezing or burning them off. Make sure your partner is treated as well.

Is There a Cure for Toenail Fungus?

Yes! Although toenail fungus is a challenge to treat, it is possible to make thick, yellowing toenails a thing of the past. The problem is that reinfection so easily occurs. Learn what the treatment involves, and what steps to take to stop reinfection – as much as possible.

In terms of the cost of having multiple procedures done, we don't usually offer any sort of discounts for that here at my practice.

Dr. Nathan Miller is a board certified cosmetic surgeon and owner of the OKC Lipo in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Specializing in all forms of liposuction, Dr. Miller is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons, American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, and a prospective member of the American College of Surgeons.

Here at OKC Lipo we get a lot of repeat customers, and I think that is fairly common in the liposuction community as a whole. The reason is fairly easy to understand. For a lot of people, they might not be so sure about coming in and undergoing liposuction. But once they do it, and they have completed the procedure, they are so pleased with the results and how easy the process was that they want to come right back in for more.

A lot of people see that liposuction has been a relatively painless and straightforward procedure with relatively quick recovery. Oftentimes, the procedure itself only lasts about an hour to an hour and a half, so it doesn’t take long. And then once these patients are fully recovered and back at home looking at the results, they like what they see on their bellies or their flanks. It’s then that they realize that this was easy enough that they could do it again on another body part. So all of a sudden, they are calling us up to get an appointment to have liposuction done on their arms or have their thighs thinned.

By and large, the most popular area for people to have liposuction done on is the abdomen and the thighs for many people. So a lot of people come in for that, but then when they come back in for a second treatment, they may want to refine a specific body part that has always bothered them, even though sometimes that body part doesn’t even stick out particularly to other people.

That’s what is so funny about working with patients, getting to see that everyone is different and everyone has different things that bother them. You know, I will have someone come into the office who has a really big nose, let’s say for example. And then this person will ask me to help remove a small scar on their leg that doesn’t even seem noticeable. A lot of times I just want to ask, “What?”

But the truth is, we as doctors should be fixing the things that bother our patients and not what bothers us. So that specifically is why I never, ever make suggestions to people about what they might want to have done. I always let the idea for liposuction on a certain body part be the idea of the patient. It is not the place of the doctor to step in and start recommending things like that.

In terms of the cost of having multiple procedures done, we don’t usually offer any sort of discounts for that here at my practice. Sometimes I will offer a discount to someone, but usually it is not for something like a customer who is coming back for more liposuction in a different area. You know, I do sometimes lower prices for patients who I can really tell don’t have the money but are really excited about the procedure—people who don’t have two nickels to rub together. I sometimes feel bad for them, so I will offer a small discount or something like that. But for the most part, we don’t offer discounts for repeat customers or anything like that.

We do, however, have a number of payment options and financing plans that patients can check out if money is an issue. And they can find out about those things by checking out our OKC Lipo website or just calling in and asking the people at the front desk.

Recovery from a liposuction procedure is really quite quick.

In this article, he tells us what recovery is really like after a liposuction procedure.

When it comes to the length of time that a patient is going to need to recover from a liposuction procedure, everyone is really completely different. A lot of the limitations that are placed on patients after undergoing a specific liposuction procedure are dependent on their own personal pain thresholds, as well as what activities they are planning to do in the coming days after their procedure.

The length of recovery time can vary so much, in fact, that I will have some patients who will go back to work literally the same day they had their liposuction done. Their pain threshold is really that high, so that means that they can go right back to the office pretty much right away. On the other hand, though, I also have some people who might take a couple of weeks to completely recover. So a lot of these limitations are dependent on the individual patient and the limitations each person puts on himself or herself.

One interesting thing about people is that we all have our own pain thresholds, in terms of what amount of pain we can tolerate. And everyone’s threshold is completely different. That’s why it can be really difficult to tell a patient exactly how long his or her recovery period is going to be, because that is such as individual issue.

As far as what each patient can expect to feel during the recovery, though, I usually say that the pain feels a lot like if you have worked out really, really hard—the pain feels like that soreness you feel the next day after a really strenuous workout. It’s really just an achy sore feeling like that.

Although there is no particular area of the body is any more prone to pain or takes longer to recover from than another, I do notice that sometimes patients say that their inner thighs feel a bit more sore than possibly other body parts a few days after the procedure. This makes sense, just mainly because you use your legs for everything—for standing up, for sitting down, obviously you walk all day, especially depending on your job. So sometimes people might notice that it takes a bit longer to fully recover from having liposuction performed on the inner thigh. But even with that there still isn’t a huge difference.

What I do notice is that there seems to be a myth that recovery from liposuction is particularly difficult or painful, and that just is not the case. Recovery from a liposuction procedure is really quite quick. And even the sore feeling that some patients might feel a day or two afterward really is not any worse than the feeling you would have after a difficult workout. So for the majority of patients, recovery and pain really is not an issue to worry about when undergoing a liposuction procedure.

Liposuction is a legitimate procedure that will not only help patients achieve a more contoured-looking body, but also sometimes help them lose weight at the same time.

In this article, he helps to explain how undergoing liposuction can reduce the overall size of a woman’s waist.

When a patient comes in asking to have liposuction performed on her waist, and I can guarantee we really will be whittling down the size of that waist by many, many inches. I would not be doing this—working in this profession and specializing in liposuction—if I did not believe that. So liposuction can really slim a woman’s waist by a large amount.

Liposuction is a legitimate procedure that will not only help patients achieve a more contoured-looking body, but also sometimes help them lose weight at the same time. However, the main thing I try to emphasize to my patients is that this is not a weight-loss procedure. Liposuction is not meant as a way to lose weight—it is a body contouring procedure for men and women.

Inevitably, I have people who will come and undergo liposuction, and they do end up losing weight due to the procedure. That is because I am taking the fat right out of them, essentially. But, of course, weight loss is not our ultimate goal in the procedure. I am not going in there and trying to help them lose a certain number of pounds. And I am never going to tell a patient that I will be able to suck 5 lbs, for instance, out of him. I just wouldn’t do that.

What I will do instead, however, is go in there and try and give my patients that flat stomach they are looking for. I’ll use the techniques we have available to give them those nice hips, or to thin down those thighs. Whatever those trouble spots or problem areas might be, my goal is to fix them up. We are trying to give our patients a more contoured body; that’s the ultimate goal.

Like I said, we do not do these liposuction procedures simply as a way for people to lose weight. However, that usually does become one of the outcomes of the liposuction for many people who come into the office. In terms of how much weight someone can expect to lose during a liposuction, though, I can’t usually say that because everyone is so different. We see so many different patients coming in, that it would be impossible to start giving out one ballpark figure in terms of weight loss.

For example, we might have a male patient one day who comes into the office and he is 6-feet tall and weights 250 lbs—with a big beer gut, let’s say. Now, another day, we might possibly be seeing a much smaller housewife who is coming in because maybe she just had two babies and she just needs a little bit of help getting a jumpstart around her flanks. These are two extremely different patients, who can expect extremely different outcomes from their procedures.

So trying to compare how much weight these people are going to be losing during their liposuction would be like comparing tomatoes to watermelons. When you start looking at how much weight a patient can expect to lose from a procedure, a lot of variables are in there. They are totally different things when you start comparing patients with such varied body types and backgrounds.

Overall, the amount of weight or inches a patient can expect to lose during a liposuction procedure just really depends on how much is there to start with. However, like I said, liposuction is a very real and legitimate procedure that can greatly reduce the size of your waist in inches—and I would not be performing this procedure on men and women if this was not the case. And gosh, if you have fat there, I will find it, and I will help you get rid of it. I can guarantee that.

In this article, he tells us which liposuction treatments are the most popular for men at his practice.

Believe it or not, it is really becoming more for men to be interested in having a liposuction procedure. In fact, having male patients come in has become really common here at OKC Lipo.

Liposuction is a little different from other cosmetic procedures, which is a little funny. I say that because when a physician does a breast augmentation and changes the size of a woman’s breasts, she can’t really hide that. So it is not uncommon for me to see patients whose friends have gotten a breast augmentation done, and then the friend likes the results so much that she comes in for a consultation as well. She might say, “Oh, Jennifer had this procedure done and see looks so great, so I wanted to come in and get the same thing done to me, too.”

Now liposuction is different, and especially when you are talking about men. The reason is because it’s usually not as outwardly noticeable when you have gotten a liposuction procedure done as it might be with other procedures like a breast augmentation or a nose job. People—and men especially—oftentimes don’t want to tell their coworkers or friends that they have gotten liposuction done. Many tend to think admitting that they have gotten liposuction is some kind of admission of failure or guilt on their part, possibly for not exercising enough or eating the right foods to lose weight on their own. So the topic of liposuction can be kind of hush-hush, even among friends.

Because of the code of silence, if you will, we get few referrals in the liposuction industry. Obviously, patients are happy with their results, but they don’t feel comfortable bragging to friends about their liposuction procedure. It’s kind of funny how that works.

So it important that men hear it elsewhere that liposuction is just as much a possibility for them as it is for women. We can do liposuction pretty much anywhere on a man’s body, but the most popular areas that we see patients coming in for are concentrated around the love handles, over the abdomen, and in the chest area. Many men have what are called “man boobs,” and with liposuction, we can really just basically do a male breast reduction without a lot of pain whatsoever.

Although there are many different liposuction options, I have found that men tend to respond very well to the Vaser LipoSelection technique. What that is, is essentially the ultrasound assisted laser going in there and removing those fat deposits in a really easy way. And for men especially, we have found that the Vaser technology is especially favorable since males tend to have somewhat more fibrotic tissue. So that’s a big thing that a lot of guys are coming in for specifically now—the Vaser LipoSelection.

In just the past couple of years, I have seen an increase in the number of men coming in for all types of liposuction procedures. The way I think of it is, basically, if you have dirty teeth, you get your teeth cleaned. If you have shaggy hair, you get your hair cut. And if you have a little extra fat that you want to get rid of, you can easily come in to an office like OKC Lipo and get that taken care of as well.

So if you really want to jumpstart a new healthy lifestyle, getting a bit of liposuction done is a great way to get started. And like I said, you don’t have to be a woman to get liposuction done. The procedures we do are hugely popular with men, as well.

It is a really great time to be working in the cosmetic surgery field, since there are continually so many new technologies and products that are coming out.

In this article, he explains his favorite new liposuction technologies.

It is really cool to be a cosmetic surgeon in this day and age because technologies are coming out every year. Fortunately, I have been in this business and doing these procedures for a while, and because of that, I have been able to make a lot of good friends in this industry. A lot of those friends are the same people who head some of the major new liposuction technology companies. And what that means is that they are always sending me new machines to try. So I am able to give these new technologies and these new machines a shot, and that allows us at OKC Lipo to be a sort of half-step ahead of the pack, if you will, compared to some other practices.

Obviously, a lot of new technologies are available, but two of my favorites right now are what is called the AccuSculpt Laser and the Vaser LipoSelection. Both of these are fairly new, and we are using them to deliver great results to a variety of patients.

AccuSculpt Laser Lipo-Sculpting
One of the foremost companies coming out with really great liposuction technologies is a company called Lutronic. So what Lutronic has managed to come up with is a product it has debuted to the public called the AccuSculpt Laser Lipo-Sculpting System.

The AccuSculpt Laser Lipo-Sculpting System is exciting technology. Whereas I feel like in the past, a lot of these new laser technologies that companies were coming out with were a little gimmicky, I can definitely tell you that AccuSculpt is not a gimmick whatsoever. The laser technology that Lutronic has developed is legit. It is good stuff, in terms of the effectiveness and quality of the treatment for so many of my patients.

In fact, I just recently handled a case where a patient came in with lots of scar tissue due to a prior procedure she had tried to have done with a different doctor. So what I was able to do with this AccuSculpt Laser technology is to go in there and just plow through the scar tissue that had built up before of her previous procedure. That is how great this new product really is.

Vaser LipoSelection
Another cool new technology out right now is called Vaser LipoSelection. This is an ultrasound-based technology, and what that—in part—means is that we are able to essentially melt the fat for a lot of people without damaging any surrounding blood vessels or nerves.

I should also say that we are using Vaser LipoSelection a lot with our male patients, too, since it is a great option to use in male breast reductions especially. In addition, for patients who might be coming into our office to have revisions done of the previous work they have undergone with other physicians, Vaser LipoSelection is a great option that we are using a lot.

So like I said, it is a really great time to be working in the cosmetic surgery field, since many new technologies and products are continually coming out. And because of my position within the industry and the friends that I have made, we at OKC Lipo are able to have a lot of those great new technologies available to our patients right away, which is a great benefit to anyone looking to make a dramatic change in the appearance of their body.

One of the best ways I can explain the concept of elasticity is by comparing it to your favorite socks.

Here, he tells us why women of all ages undergo liposuction procedures.

What I specialize in is liposuction, so everyone who comes into the office at OKC Lipo is right off the bat already looking for liposuction. However, what I do tend to see is that women age 25 to 49 are, in general, looking for more of a rejuvenation when they come into the office. And meanwhile, women are over the age of 50 are more likely to come in asking for a complete overhaul of their physique, or physical look, through liposuction.

The way it works is fairly simple. God has only given us a certain amount of elastic property to our skin. So, what happens is as we get older, or gain weight, or lose weight, or as we have babies—and then as those babies grow up and we age—is that the elasticity in the skin slowly goes away.

One of the best ways I can explain the concept of elasticity is by comparing it to your favorite socks. The way your skin loses elasticity is the same way your favorite socks start pooling at your ankles around noontime. They start out right, but then after wearing these socks for a year or so, the bunch down at your ankles every day by the afternoon. So that is what elasticity is like, and even though we have so much of it when we’re young, it goes away as we get older. And it also goes away due to major life events such as, as I mentioned before, weight change or childbirth.

What is funny about liposuction is how much it can help reverse a lot of these problems for women. Another way of explaining what liposuction can do is to use an analogy of a 10-pound sack of potatoes. If you have a 10-pound bag of potatoes and you take 2 pound out, then you are left with 8 pounds of potatoes inside a 10-pound bag. So basically, you have got a lot of extra sack left. So the same is true if you have lost a lot of weight or gone through childbirth. With liposuction, we are helping shrink that 10-pound sack to a smaller size that will fit right over those 8 pounds of potatoes. That’s just one example I use as a way to explain it.

Now, in using the laser device—or also using the Vaser device, either one—we are optimizing that skin in the abdomen or other area of the body to shrink it down as much as possible. And once we shrink it down as much as possible, we essentially are handing the baton back off to the patient’s body—it’s up to that body to handle the rest of it, because we can only do so much.

Like I said, I have patients coming in who are all different ages. However, younger women tend to do better with the liposuction procedures simply because they have more elasticity left in the skin. So their skin snaps back into shape much easier.

Another thing is that I see so patients who come into the office after childbirth. When women who have just given birth come in, and the places they always ask for help with are their flanks and their bellies. Babies and giving birth are hard on women’s bellies and breasts. Let me tell you, as a physician, I see this all the time.

So while I see women of all ages coming in for liposuction, there definitely are some differences in what individual women are asking for in terms of the areas they want help with. And also, there is only so much we can do in terms of the skin’s elasticity, especially after big life changes such as major weight loss or childbirth. These are the kinds of things that can really stretch the skin, but they are also the kinds of things that we as physicians can really help with.

Laser liposuction is another one of these new modalities that has come out, as far as recent advancements in the field of cosmetic surgery.

Here, he tells us all about paying for laser liposuction.

Laser liposuction is another one of these new modalities that has come out, as far as recent advancements in the field of cosmetic surgery. What we as doctors can essentially do with the technology is melt the fat away and then suck the fat out with a suction tube. We are using this technique to give patients some really great results.

In terms of more specifically about the laser liposuction procedure, multiple companies currently offer this laser technology to doctors. Some physicians will use a dual wavelength laser right now; some people will use what is known as a single wavelength laser. Of course, everyone claims that the laser they are using is the best. You know, that’s just how it works.

But essentially, using the laser we are able to just melt the fat in whatever area of the body we are working on into a sort of dissolved fluid. So after we’ve done this with the laser, we can go right back in there with a special suction tube to just go in behind it and suck that melted fat right out of the body. Once again, we are able to do this procedure using just a local anesthetic. Obviously, the length of time it takes to perform laser liposuction can vary, but a lot of our appointments last just about 45 minutes.

We can use laser liposuction pretty much all over the body, including the arms, butts, chin, face, hips, and thighs. It works well for male breast reductions, as well. The hope is also that the laser will stimulate the body’s collagen production, too, which can result in the appearance of tighter, smoother skin.

Pricing

As far as cost goes when you are talking about laser liposuction, here at OKC Lipo I usually charge $2,000 for the first area of laser lipo, and then $1,500 for every other area thereafter. Price wise, we are significantly cheaper here at OKC Lipo than at other practices nationwide.

The reason for this has to do a lot with our location here in Oklahoma. I moved my practice out here from Scottsdale, Arizona, so when I first came out here to the Midwest, it seemed like everything was on. On top of the cost, you save simply by having your procedure done in a low-cost area like Oklahoma. There is also just the fact that we here at OKC Lipo are still charging significantly less for procedures than anyone else in the area. And that certainly applies to the rest of the nation, as well.

The fact that we are able to charge less and give people these great results is great because I feel like if people want to have a cosmetic procedure done, then they should be able to do so. If I make a little less money, then that is fine. I am here as a service to patients, and I truly enjoy what I do as a cosmetic surgeon specializing in liposuction. And if I need to knock a little money off a procedure for someone to have surgery—then if I do can that I’ll do that, too.

We offer multiple financing options here at OKC Lipo. At our front desk, patients can find out about the handful of financing companies that we work with. We also have some links to these companies on our OKC Lipo website. By checking these companies out online, patients can see right away if they will qualify for financing as an option to help pay for their laser liposuction procedure.

One of the commonly misunderstood things about liposuction has to do with fat cells and re-growth.

Here, he explains a few little-known intricacies of liposuction procedures.

One of the commonly misunderstood things about liposuction has to do with fat cells and re-growth. What that means is that people often wonder, “If I get liposuction in one area, will the fat just come back?” I can say definitely the answer to that is no. But at the same time, the topic is also a little more complicated.

How it works is this: Every person is born with a certain number of fat cells, believe it or not. And that number never changes. So when people gain weight and get fat, they are never actually gaining fat cells in their body. Rather, the fat cells that they already have are simply getting bigger. And over time, you begin to look bigger due to the size increase of your fat cells.

So, for patients who are undergoing liposuction, if they come in saying that they have an area over their belly that is bothersome, then I will go in there and help them. I can go in and essentially melt and suck out that fat with one of the many new technologies we have available today. And what happens is that the fat that I have sucked out of that patient’s body is never going to grow back.

Here is the kicker, though. Liposuction can’t prevent you from gaining weight in other places in the future. So if you do gain weight after undergoing liposuction, that fat cell growth is going to happen in other areas of your body. Although there is no longer an ability to gain fat in your stomach, let’s say if you have undergone a liposuction in that area, you will gain the fat in other areas of your body. So that is one reason why patients who come in to get liposuction done still do need to control their own weight gain in the future.

This touches on the topic of weight loss, as well, since many patients come in to our office thinking that liposuction is somehow going to be a form of weight loss. While undergoing liposuction will inevitably lead to a loss of weight for a lot of my patients, that is not something I ever guarantee to anyone.

Liposuction is a body contouring procedure, not a weight loss procedure. So because of that fact, patients cannot rely on liposuction alone to be a miracle cure for their weight issues.

Instead, what I will do for patients is guarantee them that I will get as much fat out as possible in the area where they are having trouble, and I will do my best to get them the flat stomach, slimmed down hips, or thinner thighs that they have always wanted. Those are much more realistic and positive goals when undergoing a liposuction procedure than simply weight loss alone.
