Specialized Healthcare Cleaning

John Pletz | November 25, 2009

Specialized cleaning for facilities is an important service that ServiceMaster Clean is proud to provide. John Pletz is CEO of ServiceMaster Clean by Pletz, based in Crystal Lake, Illinois, talks here about what it is all about.

facilities require specialized cleaning to maintain the health and safety of both the people who are being treated there, and the people who work and visit there. ServiceMaster Clean is a pioneer in specialized cleaning, which is why we have years of experience in the area.

Servicemaster Clean has a certification program that is done in levels, from cleaning a doctor’s office all the way up to cleaning an actual surgical area. We have also introduced special training in Memphis, Tennessee, for people who want to get certification in hospital cleaning. Our in-depth training programs include:

  • Infection control, detailing universal precautions
  • Safety and security regulatory compliance, with a focus on blood-borne pathogens
  • Common problem areas as identified by professionals
  • Special procedures for exam rooms, nurses stations and utility rooms
  • Quality assurance

Everyday Practices Ensure Quality

One thing you do with cleaning is use microfiber cloths and mops, which pick up all particulate matter. We also only use green cleaning products, with the exception of high-touch points, where we use a hospital-grade disinfectant. Those touch points are really emphasized in medical facilities, such as the light above the dental chair, the door handles and the light pulls, as well as where the hands rest on the furniture, sinks and drinking fountains. And we also use an oxidizing cleaner in the restrooms.

When we clean a surgical suite, we would do a flood clean of the floor, which means the floor pitches in, it has hospital corners, and everything goes toward the center of the room so it can be collected. We get everything wet with the proper sanitizing agent and then we collect it in the drains in the center of the floor.

It is also critical that staff are trained to dispose of biohazardous waste. If the office is a small one usually the staff handle that, if it is large medical facility our people are trained to do that. Finally, it is important that all personnel wear PPE — personal protection equipment — which includes gowns, goggles, robes, face masks if needed and disposable booties.

With ServiceMaster Clean, you know you are hiring only the best trained professionals, who have certification in the required areas needed to get the job done expertly and professionally, at cost and on time.
