You are so right Darcy. What people have to know is following a waxing, the hair follicle is open for 24 for 48 hours and when it is open, it is susceptible to infections/bacteria. After waxing it is recommended that you stay out of hot tubs and tanning salons…that you don't change your laundry detergent and that you wear loose clothing (not for eyebrows of course ) There are also certain products on the market, such as PFB which contain salicylic acid (used typically for acne skin) that will actually clean out the hair follicle and help prevent or kill off infection. It is important that the skin is sanitized first. Instruments are sanitized by hospital grade disinfectant. No redipping of sticks. Finally, cleanse the skin after waxing. As a RN and Aesthetician at a medi-spa in Cincinnati cleanliness of the procedure is extremely important.

I just read in a hospital journal about a woman who suffered a massive infection following a full Brazilian bikini wax, and almost died. No matter what part of your body is being waxed, it's imperative to ensure the salon is as clean as possible and that instruments used are as sterile as possible.
