It’s not always easy to ascertain whether or not your husband or wife is cheating on you. That’s why hiring a private investigator has become so popular when it comes to spousal infidelity. Rick Roy is head of Rix Investigations, a private investigation firm based in Phoenix, Arizona. He talks here about why a third party can help you get to the bottom of a suspected philanderer.
Ninety percent of my clients as far as domestic infidelity is concerned are women, that is, wives, girlfriends or partners who suspect their man is cheating on them. They confront their spouse on their own all the time, and when they are tired of it, they call me.
Trust No-One
There are many things you can do if you suspect your husband of doing the dirty, right from the beginning. The first thing to keep in mind is to maintain strict confidentiality. Don’t ask your neighbor across the street where to find a good private investigator, just in case your neighbor is part of the problem.
Instead, find a trusted source. Call a relative, a life-long friend, or a professional association like the United States Association of Professional Investigators, a resource to find a licensed investigator in any part of the country.
Information, Information, Information
Next, it’s important to bring every bit of information you think will be helpful in solving the crime or the mystery, or simply finding the truth. This information can include photographs, copies of any text messages, emails, telephone bills, and any suspicious purchases. For example, what if the man was at Victoria’s Secret twice in a month, and his wife never got a gift?
You are also looking for charge receipts and telephone logs, and you will need to bring in a lot of necessary information about the subject to get the job done properly, such as his Social Security number, date of birth, and list of known associations and addresses.
Stop Being Confrontational
One of the worst mistakes that a spouse makes when suspecting her significant other is cheating is that she confronts him and questions him, which merely makes him better at lying to her. We are playing a game of poker here. We have to let that person feel at ease, letting him think everything is right, just before we hit them with the truth.
Our intention as private investigators is to obtain evidence through photographs or video, substantiating the partner’s suspicions. Most of the time we are using special equipment and our whole goal is to catch him in the act. It can be something sexual, and it also an include catching him eating with a woman in a restaurant when he said he had a meeting.
We take pictures of the man in covert circumstances, which is completely legal. We are not interested in pornography, but we do manage to obtain real evidence. And when we use decoy dates, we stop as soon as any initial physical contact is made. This is a tried-and-tested method of catching someone in the act that really works.
